A country whose history long filled me with sadness. I arrived with pity and left in admiration of the people who survived the genocide of their own state. Here the will to live, to grow and to find joy despite everything is sharp and unmistakable. Perhaps Buddhism helps preserve that inner steadiness.

Angkor. Faces

Siem Reap during Bon Om Touk and outside of it. Khmer people in their cities and at the temple — in celebration, in rain, in the everyday crowd. No staging: whatever happened to cross my path on the streets and in the corridors of Angkor. Street photography of people for whom Angkor is not a tourist stop but part of daily life.

Angkor. Stone

Close-ups in which Angkor stops being a 'landmark' and becomes geology. Stone that has carried a thousand years, moss, vines, carvings no one will ever read again. The longer you look, the more you see.

Angkor. Ground

The most famous and the most remote parts of Angkor Wat. Crowds of tourists by the towers at sunset, empty corridors in the side galleries, bas-reliefs no guide ever reaches. Frames shot between the well-known and the unknown — what only a person ready to leave the main path will see.
